Picture this. You just bought a brand new wakesurf board and you can't wait to try it out! You bring it to the river, shove it into your board rack and bash it on the swim platform. Suddenly it's taking in water and is impossible to ride. That's $600 down the drain and you'll be missing out on good times for the rest of the summer.
We created some tips for how you should take care of your wakesurf board, some more obvious than others, to ensure that your board will be around for years to come.
Protect your board with a bag
The simplest way to keep your wakesurf board safe from the sun or getting thrashed is to keep it in a bag or sock when it's not in use. Socks are good if you leave your boat in the water throughout the summer and aren't carrying your board back and forth. And padded bags are recommended if you are moving your board around from boat to car often.
Stay clear of objects that could damage your board
Wakesurf boards are made of fragile foam cores that can easily snap or ding when thrashed into poles or swim platforms. Be especially careful handling your board from your car to the boat, walking down to the dock and loading it on the boat. Some riders prefer platform starts into the water, but that can be risky for your board and your platform. Instead, start your ride from the water and fall into the water when you're ready to call it quits.
If you do ding it, repair it
If you do end up dinging your board on something, be sure to repair it as soon as possible in order to avoid water in the core. With the Liquid Force Dig Repair Kit, apply a small amount of epoxy to the damaged area. Let it dry for approximately 24 hours, then shave it down with sandpaper for a smooth finish.
Purchase a tower rack made for wakesurf boards
Some racks claim they are made for wakesurf boards, yet they cause your board to rattle around while driving down the river. This is because some racks aren't made specifically for something as fragile as a wakesurf board. We recommend a rack like the Roswell Triton Strapless Board Rack, which allows you to adjust the secure fit of your board within the racks.
Remove your board from the racks
Although driving down the highway with a board in your tower racks may seem like no big deal as long as they're strapped down, it is risky. You may forget to clamp it down and lose your board, or you could hit something along the way. Just make sure that you don't leave it behind to get ran over, too.
